Every winter, the white sands of the Rann of Kutch fill with color, folk music, Kutchi food and craft, and a city of tents rises out of the salt desert. That season is now officially within reach: bookings for Rann Utsav Tent City 2026-27 are open, and the tents you choose from today are the same ones that will be sold out by October.

A festival two decades in the making
Rann Utsav began in 2005, started by the Gujarat government to bring the world to the Rann of Kutch. What began as a short cultural fair has grown into one of India’s biggest tourism events: a four month celebration of Kutchi heritage, handicrafts, music and the surreal white desert itself, drawing travellers from across India and abroad. Dhordo, the host village, was even named the UN’s Best Tourism Village in 2023.
What your booking gets you
The Tent City is a complete seasonal township, not a campsite. When you book a tent for 2026-27, here is what the stay includes:

The places a longer package unlocks
The 1 night stay covers the White Rann. But Kutch rewards time, and the 2 Nights 3 Days and 3 Nights 4 Days packages take you deeper into the region:
- Gandhi Nu Gaam: a craft village where Kutchi embroidery, mirror work and Rogan art are made in front of you, and where the souvenirs actually come from the hands that made them.
- Kala Dungar (Black Hills): the highest point in Kutch, with a panoramic view of the entire white desert stretching to the horizon.
- Dholavira: a 4,500 year old Harappan city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, reached via the Road to Heaven, one of the most surreal drives in India.
- Mandvi: a quiet beach town with a shipbuilding yard and the Vijay Vilas Palace, where the desert trip ends with the sea.
- Smritivan, Bhuj: the earthquake memorial and museum on Bhujiyo Hill, built in memory of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and among the most moving modern museums in India.

Which dates to book first
Not all nights sell equally. The first to go, every single season, are the full moon nights (around 24 November, 24 December, 22 January and 20 February this season), the Christmas to New Year week, Diwali week (8 November falls just after opening this year), and weekends. If any of those are on your list, book them now and build the rest of the trip around them. If your dates are flexible, a weekday stay gives you the same Rann with fewer crowds and friendlier rates.
