The dates that matter this season
The Tent City opens on 1 November 2026, and this year the calendar is unusually kind. Diwali falls on 8 November, exactly one week after opening. Celebrating the festival of lights under a sky full of stars, with Kutchi folk music and traditional food instead of city noise, is an experience very few people have had, because Diwali rarely lands inside the festival window this neatly.
After that come the Christmas and New Year week, which is the single busiest stretch of every season, Uttarayan on 14 January when the sky fills with kites, and Valentine week in February for couples. Every one of these windows books out well in advance. You can see the complete list on our special dates page.
Full moon dates at Rann Utsav 2026-27
The full moon nights are the reason most people come. Under a full moon the white desert does not look real. It looks like someone spread moonlight on the ground. This season, full moon nights fall around these dates:
24 November 2026
24 December 2026, overlapping the Christmas rush, the most demanded nights of the entire season
22 January 2027
20 February 2027, the last full moon before the season closes
Full moon stays sell out 3 to 6 weeks ahead. If a moonlit Rann is the whole point of your trip, lock these dates first and plan everything else around them.
Where it is and how to reach
The Tent City comes up at Dhordo, a small village on the edge of the Great Rann of Kutch, and the winner of the UN Best Tourism Village award in 2023. Bhuj is your gateway, about 80 km away.
By air: Bhuj airport has direct flights from Mumbai. Ahmedabad airport, which connects to every metro, is the larger hub.
By train: Bhuj railway station has direct trains from Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi.
By road: Ahmedabad to Dhordo is roughly a 400 km drive of 7 to 8 hours on good highways.
Our packages include AC coach transfers from Bhuj to the Tent City and back, so once you reach Bhuj the rest of the trip is taken care of. For route maps and travel options, see the how to reach page.
One thing to know in advance: entry to the White Rann requires an online permit issued on the Gujarat government portal, which is separate from your tent booking. We walk every guest through it at the time of booking, so it never becomes a surprise at the gate.
Where you will stay, and what it costs
Rann Utsav Tent City is not a campsite. It is a full seasonal township with restaurants, a handicraft bazaar selling Ajrakh, Bandhani, mirror work embroidery and Lippan art, cultural performances every evening, and activities ranging from camel carts and ATV rides to paramotoring over the white desert. Tents come in four categories:
Non-AC Tent: from Rs 6,300 per person
Deluxe AC Tent: from Rs 8,300 per person
Premium AC Tent: from Rs 9,300 per person
Super Premium AC Tent: from Rs 10,300 per person
You can compare all four categories in detail on our accommodation page.
Every package covers your stay, all meals (breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner), evening cultural programs, guided sightseeing and Bhuj to Bhuj transfers. Choose from the 1 Night 2 Days, 2 Nights 3 Days or 3 Nights 4 Days itineraries, and see current rates on the packages and pricing page. Prices climb for full moon nights, weekends and festival weeks, and everything is subject to availability, so treat the numbers above as starting points and check the live rate for your dates.
What the weather is like, and what to pack
Winter is exactly why the festival happens in these months. Days are sunny and pleasant, typically in the mid 20s Celsius. But the desert flips at night. December and January nights regularly drop below 10 degrees on the open Rann, and the wind makes it feel colder. Pack proper winter layers (a warm jacket, cap and socks), comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen for the daytime glare off the white salt, and a power bank for the amount of photography you are about to do.
New this season: the Road to Heaven extension
If you can spare an extra day, drive the Road to Heaven, the 30 km causeway from the Rann towards Dholavira. It is one of the most surreal stretches of highway in India, ending near the 4,500 year old Harappan city of Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From this season, seasonal tent accommodation is also coming up at Dholavira, which makes an overnight extension practical for the first time. Contact us to add it to your itinerary.
Book early, because this is not a place you walk into
Every season the same story repeats. Families plan a December trip in November and find the good tents gone. Full moon nights, the Christmas and New Year week and most weekends sell out first. If your dates are fixed, book now. If they are flexible, a weekday around a full moon gets you the best of the Rann at gentler prices.
Bookings for Rann Utsav 2026-27 are open now, and an early bird discount is currently live on all packages.
As an authorised booking partner for Rann Utsav Tent City, we (Aasaan Holidays) handle your complete booking: tent, package, transfers and permit guidance, with a real human on the phone 24×7 in English, Hindi or Gujarati. Have a look at real photos from past seasons in our gallery.

Every winter, the white sands of the Rann of Kutch fill with color, folk music, Kutchi food and craft, and a city of tents rises out of the salt desert. That season is now officially within reach: bookings for Rann Utsav Tent City 2026-27 are open, and the tents you choose from today are the same ones that will be sold out by October.
The season runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027. If you want the full background on this year’s calendar, we have covered it in detail in our Rann Utsav 2026-27 dates announcement. This post is about the part that comes next: what you get when you book, and how to do it before the good dates go.
A festival two decades in the making
Rann Utsav began in 2005, started by the Gujarat government to bring the world to the Rann of Kutch. What began as a short cultural fair has grown into one of India’s biggest tourism events: a four month celebration of Kutchi heritage, handicrafts, music and the surreal white desert itself, drawing travellers from across India and abroad. Dhordo, the host village, was even named the UN’s Best Tourism Village in 2023.
What your booking gets you
The Tent City is a complete seasonal township, not a campsite. When you book a tent for 2026-27, here is what the stay includes:
A tent that matches your budget. Choose from four categories starting at Rs 6,300 per person: Non-AC, Deluxe AC, Premium AC and Super Premium AC. Compare them on the accommodation page.
All meals included. Breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner, served through the stay. Kutchi and Gujarati specialities included.
Evening culture, every evening. Folk dances, live music and performances under the open sky, on every night of your stay.
Guided sightseeing. The White Rann at sunset, and depending on your package, the wider Kutch circuit covered below.
Bhuj to Bhuj transfers. AC coach pickup and drop from Bhuj, about 80 km away. See the how to reach page for routes into Bhuj.
Activities at the Tent City. Camel carts, ATV rides, paramotoring, star gazing and more. The full list is on the activities and facilities page.
The places a longer package unlocks
The 1 night stay covers the White Rann. But Kutch rewards time, and the 2 Nights 3 Days and 3 Nights 4 Days packages take you deeper into the region:
Gandhi Nu Gaam: a craft village where Kutchi embroidery, mirror work and Rogan art are made in front of you, and where the souvenirs actually come from the hands that made them.
Kala Dungar (Black Hills): the highest point in Kutch, with a panoramic view of the entire white desert stretching to the horizon.
Dholavira: a 4,500 year old Harappan city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, reached via the Road to Heaven, one of the most surreal drives in India.
Mandvi: a quiet beach town with a shipbuilding yard and the Vijay Vilas Palace, where the desert trip ends with the sea.
Smritivan, Bhuj: the earthquake memorial and museum on Bhujiyo Hill, built in memory of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and among the most moving modern museums in India.
White desert photography sessions run through the season, and the full moon nights are the ones photographers plan around. Check the special dates before you pick your stay.
Which dates to book first
Not all nights sell equally. The first to go, every single season, are the full moon nights (around 24 November, 24 December, 22 January and 20 February this season), the Christmas to New Year week, Diwali week (8 November falls just after opening this year), and weekends. If any of those are on your list, book them now and build the rest of the trip around them. If your dates are flexible, a weekday stay gives you the same Rann with fewer crowds and friendlier rates.
